I love where I live. South Carolina is a beautiful state and I have the privilege of living on a small lake in the eastern part of Anderson called Broadway Lake. This hidden 300-acre gem boasts a wide variety of water sports such as fishing, skiing, wake boarding, paddle boarding, canoeing, kayaking, and more. There is also a public golf course on the lake shore called, Pine Lake Golf Club, this is open year-round. The lake is located just ten minutes from downtown Anderson, which has a wide array of restaurants, microbreweries, shops, and an outdoor amphitheater. This lake community is also 40 miles to downtown Greenville and just a little over an hour drive to Spartanburg.
Broadway Lake rarely freezes over during the winter, typical for this climate. That is great if you like to bird watch! An abundance of waterfowl can be seen on the lake year-round. Ducks, geese, white egrets, king fisher, owls, great blue heron, can be seen daily. Occasionally a bald eagle will visit to catch a fish or two, and recently a large flock of wood storks stayed for the entire summer. There is also plenty of wildlife including white-tail deer, fox, raccoons, beavers, turtles, little lizards called anoles and many more lake loving creatures.
My personal favorite activities include taking our boat out with family for a spin around the lake, kayaking with my husband and paddling to visit with neighbors sitting on their docks, riding our bikes in the adjacent countryside that is full of little farms with grazing cattle, and in the evenings just relaxing listening to the frogs and watching the cackling geese land all from our back porch.
